Nancy Prisk is a metalsmith working with silver and copper to create one of a kind original jewelry designs. She uses a unique combination of methods to texture and shape the metals into forms inspired by nature. Her work is showing in galleries in New England, California, and the Bahamas.
A graduate of the University of Maine, Nancy majored in education including studies in nutrition, fiber art and design. In addition she graduated from the Middle Management Program in Business at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. Her career has included teaching, business management, consumer education, and project development and management consulting. She is delighted now to have "retired" to resume her full-time work as an artist.
Nancy's passion for hands-on forms of expressing her creative thoughts has led her to design and produce the lines of jewelry marketed by her company, Southport Silver. Her training includes her studies at the DeCordova Museum School in Lincoln, MA as well as at several independent educational studios in Massachusetts and Maine. She has had the opportunity to expand her knowledge and skills under the direction of master silver and metalsmiths from the US and United Kingdom.
The interest and skill in metalworking has been in the Prisk family for generations. Nancy's great grandfather immigrated from Cornwall, England in the 1860's to work in the tin mines in Connecticut. He was joined by other family members and they founded the Prisk Pewter Company. When Nancy was a child her father taught her to solder and work with metal just as he had learned from his father.
Nancy and her family live on Southport Island, Maine where her studio is located. She also resides part-time in Orono, Maine and attends classes in Native American Studies and Peace Studies at the University of Maine.
